At Alumni we pride ourselves in being on the pulse. Lately we had a talk with Juha Väre, CFO at Paulig Group. He shared his positive takeaways in these tough times. As a CFO Juha has had to get much closer to the operative business due to the current circumstances including an increased focus on detailed, up-to-date operational data.

Below is Juha's list of three good things coming out of this otherwise bleak situation:

  1. Efficiency. We've found another gear in our problem solving focus, minimising some of the complexity in decision making typical to matrix organisations. We we're able to for instance set up an internal web shop for our personnel in 24h.

  2. Digital proficiency & communication. Practicing working virtually and emphasise communication will surely have long term benefits. I've encouraged everyone to call each other also outside of meetings.

  3. Improved tolerance of being outside the comfort zone. What are you experiences? What skills have you honed lately?
