Dixons Carphone (DC) are a specialist in Omni-channel retailing. With 80% of customers starting their journey by researching products online, the convergence of technology (laptops, TVs and using mobiles to control things) forged the coming together of DC which also creates synergies and scale.

DC have set up ‘pin point’ to ensure staff are able to give exact information to the customer  – Pin point allows staff to ask customer’s questions by entering it into a tablet which then produces answers or recommendations instantaneously.

The DC customer is a truly connected customer – Product (internet of things), connectivity (faster), content (cloud based, subscription) and services (pull it all together e.g. upgrade, fix etc.)

The Internet of things is spreading – just look at the relatively recent introduction of smart-health by way of gadgets, tracking things from monitoring ones tennis serve or golf swing, through to a pedometer or calorie counter. Then there’s the smart-home which allows one to set the thermostat remotely via apps and now Smart watches, most recently with the Apple launch.

All of these technologies are available now; the future is here.
